The "melting pot" makes sense to me. Thanks!Tom Bonduranthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07209820912557263080noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7629130.post-1130384873508735092005-10-26T23:47:00.000-04:002005-10-26T23:47:00.000-04:00Didn't Thanagar have multiple races living on it. ...Didn't Thanagar have multiple races living on it. The dominant species were humanoid and human-like and gave birth to the Hawkmen. But the "low" species who lived in the "low towns" and such were of various and sundry species. Whether they were emigrees or conquered peoples who were transplanted to Thanagar proper, I'm not sure.

Hyanthis(might not be her name), the Thanagarian tyrant who appeared in Justice League way back when wasn't the standard "high" Thanagarians.

Onimarr Synn isn't strictly human-like either. Nor were his assistants, who were shown in the Return of Hawkman issues of JSA.

Thanagar may have been a melting pot of cultures and species.

Of course with Hawkman's straight-line, well laid out continuity figuring stuff like this out is a piece of cake.(WARNING: Sarcasm drips from every word in this paragraph. HA!)

Of course, that's me working with my 38-year old comic memory of books that I read way, way back when I wore a younger man's clothes.

puffMark "Puff" Andersonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06586250842952809933noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7629130.post-1130368915415412762005-10-26T19:21:00.000-04:002005-10-26T19:21:00.000-04:00I keep thinking I'm missing something on Gotham Kn...I keep thinking I'm missing something on Gotham Knights, and intend to read all the Lieberman issues in a big lump at some point. By that time I figure the creative team will have changed....Tom Bonduranthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07209820912557263080noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7629130.post-1130339360996642082005-10-26T11:09:00.000-04:002005-10-26T11:09:00.000-04:00I too thoroughly enjoyed She-Hulk v.2 #1 for all t...I too thoroughly enjoyed She-Hulk v.2 #1 for all the reasons you've outlined so eloquently above. Not being a regular Marvel reader, I am extremely appreciative of the way Slott has managed to write a book that fits in with current Marvel U continuity, but which can be read and enjoyed on its own merits. I also loved the sly digs at the comics industry, and the jury-selection scene at the end was hilarious. I'm dying to know if Slott is going to follow through, and make critics of Bendis's run on Avengers happy... :-)

I enjoyed Verheiden's Superman story, but with reservations. I very much liked that Verheiden showed Lois as being able not only to put herself in harm's way, but also perfectly capable of getting herself out of it, too. Seems to me Lois all too often comes across as either the damsel in distress, or in mother mode -- the one to tell Clark that everything's going to be just fine. I liked the tension Verheiden had building between Clark and Lois in this issue. I didn't like the OMACs. It seems like they've popped up in every DC comic I've read this week so far, and I'm tired of them. Which doesn't bode well for 52...

I also got a bit weary of Bene's art. The suggestive poses got a tad annoying, and for me detracted from the story as a whole. It sounds ridiculous, but, for me, it felt vaguely exploitative: here, read a story about Lois. We know she's not really an interesting character, but look, see how sexy she is? Bleh.

I'm thinking of dropping Gotham Knights. Not that the stories are bad, exactly, but nothing great is happening either.iamzahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00271162790803507930noreply@blogger.com
